THE MAGICIAN’S DILEMMA

SEPARATE THE BOX

The box is heavy

It takes all your strength

To cleave the halves apart

Pushing

Slowly the casters roll

Until there is enough space between

To inspect closely

Everything is revealed

There are no spaces unaccounted

No trick compartments

No Oliver

This is all wrong

Dad has never made anyone reappear

With the box open

What if Oliver is trying to come back

But he can’t because the box isn’t sealed

You hurriedly reunite the pieces

Close the box

And await his return

Nothing happens

You throw your hands up

Do you say

“THIS IS ALL DAD’S FAULT!”

Or “THIS IS ALL MY FAULT!”
